24 April 2019

Dr. Georgia Virginia Panopoulou is one of twenty-four scientists who were recently granted a fellowship by Hubble Fellowship Program of NASA (NHFP) to conduct postdoctoral research in California.

The NHFP aims to enable outstanding postdoctoral scientists to pursue independent research in the realm of NASA astrophysics, using theory, observation, experimentation, or instrument development. Each fellowship provides the awardee up to three years of support.

Dr. Panopoulou obtained one of the very few prestigious fellowships which is sponsored by NASA’s Hubble Fellowship Program (NHFP).

Her research will focus on ”A Unique Approach to the Determination of the Galactic Magnetic Field Using Starlight and Synchrotron Polarization Observations” and her work will be completed at the California Institute of Technology(Caltech).

Dr. Panopoulou obtained her doctorate in 2017 from the University of Crete. Her adviser was Dr. Kostas Tassis. At this moment, she is working at the Astronomy Department of Caltech in the team of Professor Tony Redhead, focusing mainly on magnetic fields.

In 2017, she was awarded the New Researcher Award of the University of Crete.
