After years of waiting, the Greek-American producer Laeta Kalogridis got her wish! The latest science fiction TV series “Altered Carbon” aired on Netflix last week, based on a 2002 novel with the same name (https://www.netflix.com/title/80097140). Laeta Kalogridis optioned to make the book come alive 15 years ago, and the outcome proved her right. Her past work did not go unnoticed either, as she has participated in many productions we are all familiar with, including the movies “Avatar”, “Shutter Island”, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, and “Alexander”, with Colin Farell, Angelina Jolie, and Anthony Hopkins. One of our own, active in Hollywood backstage, Kalogridis does not rest: she is working on two new films for 2018!
Altered Carbon is set in the 25th century when the human mind has been digitized and the soul itself is transferable from one body to the next. Takeshi Kovacs, a former elite interstellar warrior known as an Envoy who has been imprisoned for 500 years, is downloaded into a future he’d tried to stop. If he can solve a single murder in a world where technology has made death nearly obsolete, he’ll get a chance at a new life on Earth.
