Mosaiko.gr met with Petros and Stelios, the guys behind Evil Windo Dog a small mobile development studio in Thessaloniki
Can you tell us a few words about Evil Window Dog, and the concept behind your company?
We are a two man mobile development studio from Thessaloniki, Greece. We founded Evil Window Dog so that we can create apps we love. We have already released three mobile applications and we have plans to release more in the future.
How did you come up with that name and what does it stand for?
The story of our company's name is as weird as the name itself. Some years ago, while exploring an old abandoned and maybe haunted house near our neighborhood, we had a really weird thought. What if there was a humanlike silhouette with a dog face in one of the windows, staring back at us? So this is pretty much the story behind the name.
Can you tell us about the recent apps you've developed?
The first app we developed is Soundbeam, a digital oscilloscope, which has received a praise from the Hellenic Association of Design Awards and got more than half a million downloads. Our latest app is Horizon, an app that lets user shoot horizontal videos regardless of the physical orientation of the device and received unexpected press coverage.
What is the story behind you two? How did you guys meet?
We met each other at secondary school and have been friends ever since. We have worked together in multiple projects in the past, so the idea of forming a company together to work on our passion came really naturally. We started working on mobile apps in 2011 and we realized that this is what we wanted to do, so we formed up a company to do just that.
What are some of the greatest challenges you've faced so far?
Developing Horizon in four months was not an easy task. At that period, Petros was still serving the army and our designer Stratos lived in Crete. So, the communication between us was not ideal. However, we managed to overcome this difficulty using cloud services that really brought us together.
What is next for you?
We are currently focused on improving Horizon by adding new exciting features and reaching as many people as possible by supporting multiple platforms. We also have some exciting new ideas down the line, some of which are already in the development phase and are expected to be released this year.
