The film "A" after the Thessaloniki Film Festival, makes its international film premiere in the US in January 2015, at the independent cinema festival «Slamdance». It will be a special screening, with a string quartet accompaniment that will perform live music by Stavros Gasparatos.
The last week of January finds the film world united in Park City, Utah, where the Slamdance is taking place every year along with Sundance. Sundance was started by Robert Redford in 1978 as an independent cinematic answer to Hollywood, and quickly established itself as the most important festival in the USA. With time Sundance grew so much that according to some filmmakers it lost its independent character.
In the movie "A", director Stathis Athanasiou, with the Hellenist and writer Pedro Olalla, address Antigone, the antithesis of the tragedy of Sophocles: while the version of Sophocles' Antigone we see her willing to sacrifice her life in the name of her personal concept of justice, the heroine of the film does not want to become Antigone. The work speaks of a woman who is forced to stay under the hanging corpse of her brother, in the middle of a burning forest, until the authorities decide that he was punished enough.
After the film screening at Slamdance, the transmedia film "A" will go to Athens to the historic cinema "Alkyonis - New Star Art Cinema» on February 9, 2015.
