For the first time in Athens, a Startup Weekend focused on Entrepreneurial Journalism
The Advertising and Public Relations Lab, with the collaboration of Panteion University's MA Program on New Media and Journalism of Communications, Media and Culture Department, and support from the U.S. Embassy in Athens, are hosting the first Athens Startup Weekend - Entrepreneurial Journalism in Athens, May 20-22, at Athens Impact Hub.
We are seeking students and journalism professionals with passion and the attitude to change the world to put in motion their innovative ideas on content production. With the guidance of experienced mentors, we will help you "disrupt" traditional media practices using digital technology, the collaborative economy, and entrepreneurship.
With the support of the U.S. Embassy in Athens, Jeremy Kaplan, Director of Education, Tow-Knight Center for Entrepreneurial Journalism, CUNY Graduate School of Journalism, will offer a keynote address and lead the judging committee of the Athens Startup Weekend Entrepreneurial Journalism.
"Athens Startup Weekend - Entrepreneurial Journalism" is part of Startup Weekend, a global non-profit organization that promotes entrepreneurship for young adults and encourages the implementation of innovative ideas. This is the largest community of young entrepreneurs worldwide, which has organized more than 2,900 meet-ups in 150 countries in recent years.
Participation in Athens Startup Weekend—Entrepreneurial Journalism is open to anyone participating or interested in media activities, including university students and media professionals. Specifically, over three days, participants will create their own teams and will be asked to produce and design original entrepreneurial projects to introduce to a jury of media, business, and marketing and information technology specialists. Throughout the event, experienced mentors will meet with the teams and help them formulate their products and strategies. On Sunday, May 22, the teams will present their work to a jury that will evaluate the results based on the sustainability and originality of the business plan.
