Faithful to its established annual appointment, the 57th Thessaloniki International Film Festival will take place November 4 - 13, 2016. With renewed vision and a strong dedication to independent cinema, the Festival will once more invite both film makers and the audience to a special celebration of film. Films from all over the world, cinematic surprises, distinguished guests, tributes, masterclasses, round table discussions and parallel events will comprise the ten-day event.
Jarmusch, the enfant terrible of independent American cinema signs the opening film of this year's event, «Paterson», but also one of the most anticipated musical documentary of the season, «Gimme Danger».
With «Paterson» Jim Jarmusch introduces us to the poetry of everyday life with unexpected humor. Main character is a Bus Driver (Adam Driver) called Patterson, who lives in the small town of Paterson, New Jersey and in his spare time writes amazing poems. The beautiful wife (Gkolsifte Farachani) dreams of becoming a star of the guitar while zacharoplastria homemade cakes, while their ugly dog is always ready for the worst mischief. Jarmusch gives a generous history and shows us why small human moments are ultimately the most valuable in life.
The explosive documentary «Gimme Danger», is dedicated to the legendary Stooges and their frontman, Iggy Pop. A fanatic admirer and personal friend of Iggy Pop, Jim Jarmusch makes up the portrait of the band but also of the whole era. The energy of the ageless Iggy permeates the «Gimme Danger» and lure us into an authentic world, like his idols.
