In an exhibition at the Benaki Museum from May 22 to August 25, 219 unknown images of the famous Greek-American photographer Konstantinos Manos will be presented, form the series 'A Greek Portfolio'.
The shots were taken during the period 1961-1964 and were completed in 1967 when Manos visited his parent's land, "as a friendly observer," he says, "without haste and specific plan."
With his magical images he invites us to accompany him in the remote Greek villages and islands in the 60s, where people were poor and proud, in a rural setting of simplicity and serenity, giving dignity to their struggle for survival, committed to a way of life that remained unchanged for centuries.
