The 7th Athens International Festival of Short Films at the Film Archive between June 3-9, 2013.

Athens International Short Film Festival Psarokokalo is an annual film festival held in Athens each June. The festival is part of a project aimed at promotion, development, research and the advancement of film art and practice.

Competition section

International competition section includes screenings of selected short films from around the world (fiction, animation, documentary and experimental films). All films are competing for the festival's audience award. Most of the films have participated and excelled in major international festivals (Cannes, Venice, Berlin, Sundance, Clermont Ferrand, etc.) and screened for the first time in Greece.

The competition program includes 47 films. Some of them are:

Lois

Australia, Alexandra Schepisi, Fiction

Filmed in Sifnos starring Jacki Weaver (nominated for an Oscar award for her interpretation for the movie Animal Kingom).

Germany, Jochen Kuhn, Animation

In Search Of A Donkey

Von Voyage

Dozens of immigrants have climbed to a packed truck. Their destination is Europe. When finally arriving after a tiring journey, another harsh reality awaits them. The way that Europe receives them. 14 International Awards and selected at more than 40 festivals.

Tributes/Special screenings

This section of Special Screening includes tributes to film festivals, famous directors, and film schools.

Tribute to the award-winning Portuguese director Joao Salaviza

(Golden Palm: Cannes Film Festival 2009 Golden Bear: Berlin Film Festival 2012) with screenings of selected films from his filmography and live conversation with him through skype after the screening . Joao Salaviza will present to the audience exclusive material from his first feature film that he is shooting now in Portugal and chat with the audience for his work.

Norwegian documentary for Athens

Every year film & television students from Westerdals School of Communication (Norway) travel abroad to make documentaries. The aim is to gain knowledge on how to create universal stories that goes beyond cultural and national borders.

At November 2012 they came in Athens, Greece, for a month to produce 10 documentaries and tell the stories of everyday heroes.

Contemporary Mexican Cinema

A tribute to the most important Mexican films of recent years in collaboration with the Embassy of Mexico in Greece

Polish waves

A selection of contemporary Polish documentaries in collaboration with the festival Short Waves.

German animation

A selection of nine animation films succeeded in German and international festivals, an example of the evolution in the field of animation in Germany during the last decade, in collaboration with Goethe Institute Athen.

Thess short film festival

Selection of the awarded films of recent years of Thess short film festival.
