"Celebrating the Greek Connection" at the Athens Festival

The most historic and most acclaimed dance school of America, Martha Graham Dance Company, returns to the Herodion in Athens under the Full Moon Festival on Saturday, July 12 at 21.00 with the performance "Celebrating the Greek Connection".

Proceeds will be donated through humanitarian organization Life line Hellas to support neonatal intensive care units of regional hospitals of Heraklion, Patras, Larissa, Ioannina, and Alexandroupolis.

The dancer and choreographer Martha Graham laid the foundations of modern dance and ws named as one of the most innovative artistic forces of the 20th century, conquering, through the work of dozens of titles. Her name is synonymous with changes that established forever as the eternal symbol of modern dance as great contemporary choreographers studied and were inspired by the Martha Graham Technique.

With deep love for Greece, Martha Graham promoted the Greek mythology which was the primary core study and inspiration for her. She revived leading female figures of Greek mythology and history as Clytemnestra, Iocasta, Medea, Alcestis, Ariadne etc. at the most important cultural sites in the world.

In Martha Graham Dance Company's performance "Celebrating the Greek Connection", famous international Greek choreographer Andonis Foniadakis will participate with a new choreography entitled "Echo". Among the latest collaborations of Anthony Foniadaki, the movie "Noah" by Darren Aronovsky stands out.

The tour of Martha Graham's performances will start from Nafplio on July 4, will continue in Thessaloniki on 7 and 8 July in Ithaca on July 9 with final destination the Odeon Saturday, July 12.
