Get into the summer mood of the 4th Athens Open Air Film Festival and discover the best places of city! On Tuesday 22th of July, National Archaeological Museum (Garden)
Free entrance | starts at 21.00
One of the most emblematic films in the history of the American cinema, nominated for 3 Oscars and with compelling performances, Suddenly Last Summer comes alive in one of Athens' most beautiful and symbolic locations, the garden of the Archaeological Museum, on Tuesday the 22nd of July!
What are the makings of a silver screen legend? Tennessee Williams, one of the most popular stage writers in US history, meets all-powerful Hollywood producer Sam Spiegel and Oscar-winning director Joseph L. Mankiewicz. Gore Vidal is on screenwriting duty, while Elizabeth Taylor and Katharine Hepburn step in front of the camera, commanding everyone's attention.
"Suddenly Last Summer" was a meeting of giants that somehow managed to camouflage homosexuality, cannibalism and incest as a family drama! In the film, Violet Venable mourns the death of her only son Sebastian, while attempting to bribe neurosurgeon Dr. Cukrowicz to give her niece, Catharine, a lobotomy.
Her ulterior motive is to keep the details of Sebastian's unfortunate death a secret, as Catharine was the only eye witness. Mysterious and deeply enigmatic, "Suddenly Last Summer" still maintains its seductive powers, tantalizing audiences with thinly veiled hints of abysmal human behavior.
Directed by: Joseph L. Mankiewicz
