Leading experts in the field of ADHD attend annual conference in October

18 October 2014

A two-day international conference on ADHD in children, teens and adults will take place on Saturday the 18th and Sunday the 19th of October 2014, at the 9,84 Amphitheatre at Technopolis City of Athens, with the participation of leading international experts.

Distinguished speakers from the United States, Great Britain, Germany and Greece will present the latest research on the assessment and treatment of childhood and adult ADHD and will lead educational workshops for parents, mental health professionals, educators and patients alike.
Keynote speaker Dr. Thomas E. Brown is a distinguished clinical psychologist, Professor of Psychiatry at Yale University School of Medicine, Associate Director of the Yale Clinic for Attention and Related Disorders and the author of award winning books on ADHD.

ADHD is one of the most common neurodevelopmental disorders, affecting 5-7% of the student population and approximately 4 % of adults. Sufferers of ADHD have difficulties with organization, time management, sustaining attention, completing tasks and controlling emotions. Though usually diagnosed in childhood, ADHD is NOT limited to children. Approximately one-half to two-thirds of children with ADHD will continue to experience significant problems as adults.

For both children and adults, ADHD symptoms create challenges at school, work and in family and social relationships. Chronic boredom, emotional lability and low self-esteem accompanied by a series of failures in the academic and work areas often contribute to comorbid conditions such as Depression, Anxiety Disorders, sleep disorders, addictions and other mental health issues.

The conference is organized by the Pan-Hellenic Association of Individuals with Attention Deficit Disorder, ADHD HELLAS under the auspices of the 1st Psychiatric Clinic of the Athens Medical School at Eginition Hospital, the World Federation for Mental Health, the Hellenic Psychiatric Association and the City of Athens, and with the support of the U.S. Embassy in Athens.
