U.S. Increases Typhoon Relief for Philippines

The United States has increased to more than $37 million its funding for emergency relief in areas of the Philippines affected by Typhoon Haiyan/Yolanda. The United States originally committed $20 million in relief after the November 8 typhoon, reaching thousands of families with plastic sheeting for homes, soap, toothbrushes, toilet paper and other sanitary supplies.

A new forecast suggests continued strong growth in travel and tourism to the United States through 2018, following a record-breaking year in 2012. International travel and tourism spending reached a record $168.1 billion, up 10 percent from 2011, the U.S. Commerce Department said in a June 10 press release.
